Cambodia….sigh!

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I just came back from Cambodia last thursday, was there since the first day of CNY. Well, there’s nothing much in Phnom Penh except for the interesting genocide museum which i visited on the 2nd day of CNY. Kinda inauspicious to visit a killing field, graveyards and torture rooms during CNY. Was given a good insight of the Pol Pot era in Cambodia by a survivor of the civil war, how young people were trained to be a heartless killers and how educated ppl were being tortured to death.

‘Dead’ on the bus after the Angkor Wat visit

On the day I was supposed to visit the Angkor Wat, I was down with a seriously bad diarrhea, fever and felt alot like vomitting. After one visit to The Bayon in the morning, together with half of the tour group, we went back to hotel to rest cos around 20 of us were down with food poisoning, Some were even hospitalised and the bill is REALLY expensive. I managed to visit Angkor Wat but was too weak to stand or walk most of the time. So i only stood up when I needed to pose for the camera, else I would just sit under a shaded area. Though the view of Angkor Wat is truly captivating, but I didnt really enjoy the visit and the trip as a whole. Til now, my stomach is still upset, I must say that the Cambodian food virus is quite strong for me to handle. Haha.

Turf Club and Singapore Trip

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

I was down in Singapore for 4 days recently. Supposed to be a shopping and meeting up with some friends trip. Reached sg at 3pm and rested a little while in Bayshore condo before heading to Singapore turf club. I went in with one of the owners of the horse which was going to race that day. Was at the owner’s lounge and boy it was beautiful and big. The lounge oversees the whole race track and I was sitting very close to the finishing line. So every race (there were 8 races that night), I could see which horse passed the finishing line first, LIVE! I thought the whole atmosphere was pretty cool. I could order food as much as I want and it is all paid, not very good for my stomach though. I did place a bet for a race, I was rooting for horse number 3, it was so promising and the jockey is a friend of mine, everything was so certain until the very last moment where horse no. 6 wins by half a head. Wah, super ‘gan cheong’ that time. I lost 20 SGD for that but it was really fun.

Another fun thing was I could go to the horse parading area with the horse owner, well not everyone could do that, it’s a VIP area. So, I was standing with all the race horses and the jockeys, with hundreds and thousands of ppl standing at the audience area looking and placing their bets.

Since it’s a shopping trip, so of course I did get something for myself. Got a cool sunglassess, jeans, shirts and my new year clothes. Well, compared to the previous sg trip, this time I didnt shop as much cos there werent really sales going on. Oh, I had this really nice
shark fin soup and alaska crab one night for supper. Think this is the most expensive supper I have ever had so far. Haha.

My new obsession

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Image007_4My new obsession: A dog name Kiko and 2 Guinea pigs which I called Baby, (both answered to the name baby). Kiko whose real name is Akiko is a poodle+shih tzu dog belonged to my good friend, Low Ken Wai. The first time I saw Kiko was when Ken wai brought the dog to my house a few weeks back. I remembered Kiko lying on my lap in the car when we were on our way to a place for lunch. This dog, super tame, friendly and also a pussy, he’s scared of almost everything that is moving except human. Haha. I never get tired of playing with Kiko, he could keep me occupied for as long as i could remember. When he saw my guinea pigs in my garden, this fella cant stop but kept on barking and pushing the cage. The pigs were running around the cage frantically to avoid the seemingly large paws of Kiko. Darn funny. Everytime I go over to visit Kiko, he would jump to me and stick to me where ever I go. Ken wai said I turn him on, what the…..how is that possible? But KikO is really really cute and adorable. He wears a blue shirt! And he has a bell around his neck.

About the pigs, they are my Christmas gift. As much as I love them, they seem to be pretty difficult to maintain. Well, they eat 100 times more than a hamster, therefore it makes sense that they shit 100 times more than a hamster too. It’s quite a hassle to clean their cage every 2 days. When I bring them out of the cage, they usually dont move. I could leave them 1 hour on my study table and they just dont move a single step. Another pussy kinda pet. Haha. But this makes it really easy to take nice pictures of them whenever I want.

When I start my work end of this month, I will definitely see much less of Kiko and Baby. Well, they will surely be in my list of ‘must-see’ whenever I have the chance to come back to KL for a period of time. Haha. Hmm, now I am thinking that I must be alittle off to write a blog about animals I like.

Vaccination ‘horror’

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I went for the required vaccination jabs today at slb panel clinic in dayabumi. It was listed that I am supposed to be vaccined for 7 types of disease (yellow fever, hepatitis A, B and etc). While waiting for my turn, (well, it’s monday and the clininc is exceptionally filled with ppl, monday blues! haha), I met someone I thought looked familiar, I asked him if he’s from utp and true enough, he is. He got the slb offer too, most probably going to be located in labuan and doing well services too, same as me but he’s still in his final sem, so we wont start together. I met another malay girl from utp who’s there for slb medical check up. Schlumberger must have really like utp cos they are seriously recruiting many graduates from utp. Indeed I am proud of my uni. :)
When I went into the doctor’s room, I saw 5 needles on the tray, gosh is she going to poke 5 needles into me at one shot and at the same spot? Haha, I asked that silly question and the doctor assured me it’s not going to be on the same spot but nearby. So I had my 5 jabs within one minute, the last one which is a booster is the painful one, injected 1ml of that into me, the others was just 0.5ml. The doctor asked "Ada deman hari ini?" I said "No". Then she said, "Lepas ni ada la". Hahha..
I am not supposed to carry heavy stuff for the next 2 days cos my both hands are really really numb. 2 jabs on my right arm and 3 on my left. Lucky thing I didnt drive that day, so I took a taxi back.
Looking thru at my medical results, everything was fine except that my cholestrol level was near the borderline, so must be careful of my diet. Haha. Never have I experienced 5 needles in one minute b4, but I am kinda ok with the needles, so no big hu-ha or drama going on. What’s next before I join slb???
