First Futsal Experience

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

I had my very first futsal experience yesterday night. I would say it’s rather embarassing for me, I have no idea how to kick a ball properly! Haha. There were  5 girls and 7 guys, separated to 2 teams. We were playing at FootyFutsal in Tmn Megah, quite a happening place for futsal la. In my Team, there were Min Yee, Kathleen, Ken wai, Yong Peng and another which I cant recall his name, sorry. Haha. Half of the time, I was trying to avoid the ball. Another half, I had no choice but to try to kick the ball cos it was coming towards my direction. Everytime I kicked the ball, it only move like a few feet away, maximum 5 feet i think. darn embarrassing. Haha. I kinda feel that the girls were really holding the guys back and there were of course incidents where the ball hit a few girls including myself. But it was all good, not that painful. I must say that Min Yee is really good in futsal. She could beat many guys and if u see the way she brings the ball from one end of the field to the other and then scored, u will be just as amazed as I was. She and her bf make a really good combo partner together. Haha, and they have to wear the exact same shoes to play.

Our opponents on the other team were Fabian, Nik, Ee Mei, Tung Khong, Sue and another guy who i couldnt recall his name also. It was a good one hour futsal with me having no idea what I was doing most of the time but one thing for sure, I had fun and I will definitely go for a second one next time, provided I will get a basic footy lesson first. ken Wai, if u are reading this, teach me how to kick la! I know u are really good, must transfer your knowledge abit. :p

Are u really a friend?

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Is a friendship measured by the number of years we know each other? Or is it measured by the way u treat one another? I believe everyone has somehow experience the ugly side of a friendship. I learnt that the number of years does not count and that being nice to a friend does not mean the friend will be nice to u. I’ve been disappointed several times, or should I say I used to be pretty naive in thinking that people will be sincere and true if I do the same to them. It’s definitely horrible having a friend who bad-mouthed u because of a guy she cant get and then eventually, the friendship is lost due to some really silly reason. It was a disaster having friends whom u think u could rely on but when u turn your back, they shoot u down like u dont matter at all. What more if u have a friend who only knows how to take advantage of u, only be nice to u when there’s something they want from u. These are all terrible but it happened in my life and in many ppl’s lives as well. But I must say the worst kind of friend is those who camouflage well in front of u. When u think everything is just fine and going great, but the truth is, it’s uglier than u could ever imagine. Why pretend to be all nice and friendly when deep down, there’s no sincerity and friendship is just a stepping stone for your own success. Why make people believe that u are a great friend when in fact, u are just a snake who’s waiting to swallow up your friends when the time comes. I seriously dont understand how people could go that shallow to achieve what they want in life. Friendship is a beautiful thing and by all means, we should treasure and cherish them. We should not belittle our friends, support them in every possible way and share all sadness and happiness together. If u have all those qualities, then u can call yourself a friend. I find it especially hard to find real friends as time passes, things used to be much simpler when I was younger and my real friends now are mostly my secondary friends. I do hope I will find more great friends when I start to work. Friends will always be a great part of my life. :)

Genting Trip

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

I was up in Genting with my friends for 3 days and yup, I had lots of fun there. But before the genting trip, there was an unpleasant incident. At first I was ok, trying to be patient and hope everything will turn out good, or at least as it should be. Some of us met up at KLCC first cos we need to report to Petronas ESU to check our career status. So, there was where some drama unfold. Not something I would have expected but what the heck. I was pissed and dissapointed as situation changed so sudden at the last minute. I was quiet during the journey from KL sentral to genting, trying to digest and cool down. It was great that my bunch of friends were really trying to cheer me up. I appreciate every single thing they did. So all of us reached genting at around 6pm except poor Chen who reached an hour later. Haha, i was the only girl with 8 guys but these guys managed to really made my trip enjoyable.
First night was dinner at McDonald and a short stop in StarWorld Casino. Sanjeev and I won 75 bucks in Roulette, we played 3 rounds and kena 2 rounds, not bad!! After that was casino royale in the room. Was playing cho dai ti in the room with the guys and later we played bluff. Haha, that was really fun. Zhang Yaw was slipping away while trying so hard to bluff us and Tong was so on form to bluff ppl when he’s drunk. Everyone had some Chivas that night except Fong, guess he was having a flu.

Night activities….haha

The next day was indeed a crazy one. When the theme park just opened, all of us barged in. We practically sat all the rides, some nice ones and some really lame ones. Since it was off peak, we get to have 5 continuous rides on the Flying Coaster for a price of one ride. Me, Sanjeev, Aaron, Chen, Tong, Zhang Yaw and Chok were so up for the rides, I completed my 5 rides with some of them, haha…crazy!

Chen, Chok and Aaron skeptical before the ride…..

Then some of them tried the Solero shot, few even tried twice. Everyone was in super brave mode that day, which was really good. Another funny ride was the boat pedalling. All of us with partners pedalled to one end and wanted to race each other, but not even half way to the finishing line, all gave up cos it’s way too tiring, poor tong had to pedalled alone cos no partner. Haha, can really see his face turning red.

The Champion who pedalled alone!

After playing all the rides at the outdoor theme park, we went for lunch and then…another highlight. Bumper car session! We played continuous 3 times I think, or maybe 2 but one thing for sure, we had a blast! Everyone was trying to gather momentum at the beginning and when we were all at top speed, we target one person and everyone just bang into his car. Aaron was one of the targets and i think 6 cars banged into his and his specs flew off, the bumper car attendant had to stop the ride for awhile for aaron to retrieve his specs. Haha….and tong and chok were stuck at a corner for so long even I tried to bump their car to release them but to no avail, darn funny! That night everyone was tired and slept early. We went back the next day and gosh this was fun afterall, despite some hiccup in the beginning, but it was all good….Thanks guys for the fun and all the best in your careers!

L.O.V.E…… a must??

Friday, January 19th, 2007

I always wondered, does everyone have to be in love or be loved all the time? I am not referring to family love or friends’ love. It’s more like love from the opposite sex, someone who finds u attractive and lovable. I had my very first girl-boy encounter when I was just 14 and since then, I’ve been in love and out of love a few times. I find it hard to believe that throughout the past 9 nine years, I’ve always had a guy or sometimes more than one beside me. Yup, I am talking about guys who are eager to be more than just friends. I know I shouldnt be complaining and should, by every mean be flattered with what I have. But now that I think back, I lead a rather amusing life when it comes to the opposite sex. Stalkers, obsessed boyfriend, bad boy, play boy, good mummy’s boy, gentleman….I’ve almost seen and dated most of types of the guys out there. While it might not look that great in my relationship resume, but I must say that I learnt a great deal from all these. Of course there are some scary moments which I hope will not repeat again, thoughts of these moments do send the shivers to my body every now and then when i think about it.
I pondered alot, on how does it feel like to be really single for a period of time, will I be able to resist and stay solo or my 9 years of experience will somehow fail me in this attempt? I guess I will never really know but now, I am having a rather comfortable life at home(since it’s holiday), with my parents most of them time, hardly go clubbing already and more keen on movie and meal dates. I guess I’ve mellowed down and I am actually liking it, though it’s alittle boring sometimes.
However, I cant guarantee I will stay this way when i start working, could be a good thing since I will be working offshore and in Labuan subsea, how wild or crazy can i get there…I dont know. haha. To everyone out there, while it’s fun being in love and loved by someone, it’s not that fun when a relationship turns cold and when compromise and obligation are all it takes to stay in a relationship. Have lots of fun meeting new different people, my words of advice, DONT marry too early….I’ve seen many troubled young married couples. So, let’s have fun and more fun, enjoy life…! CHeers!

Schlumberger OFS-1

Friday, January 19th, 2007

I’ve just received an e-mail from a slb indonesia staff. My first day as a slb field engineer trainee will start with the OFS-1 program which stands for Oilfield Services. OFS-1 will be held in KL at Renaissance Hotel from the 26th of Feb to 4th of March. Too bad it’s not at Dubai, it’s either there or KL and for this session, it’s in KL. I was one of the 50 candidates who’s going to attend this one week seminar and from the list I got, those candidates are from every corner of the world. These foreigners get to have a nice flight from their country to malaysia and then a limo is provided to transfer them to Renaissance hotel. As for me who’s anak malaysia, I think my dad’s car will be the ‘limo’ i will be sitting in to get to the hotel. haha.

OFS-1 is basically about introduction to slb and talks on health and safety. At the last 2 days of the seminar, there will be a theory and practical driving test. U see, to me this is the scary part cos i’ve just picked up driving not long ago…I stopped for many years due to some unforeseen circumstances. Driving around KL has been ok but until now everytime after I parked my car and get out, I could feel the blood rush to my face and gosh my face will be red!  haha…i wonder why…too ‘kan cheong’ i think. I really hope I will pass the slb driving test. haha….

The plan is to complete OFS-1 and sign the contract during that time also. and right after that, I will be heading to Labuan for offshore pre-schooling for around 3 months. Initially I was told that I will be based in kemaman, i thought that was ok cos it’s still in peninsular but now, I am based in Labuan Subsea….hmmm…I guess it will be pretty much the same, just that i need to take a flight back to kl instead of by car or bus.

After pre-schooling at Labuan, I will be going to Paris for schooling at their training centre for 10 weeks. There will be a test every 3-4 days and I heard they will really push the trainee to their uppest limit. Interesting….but intimidating. Anyhow, I am really looking forward to the whole training which will take around 6 months to complete and by then I will be a field engineer at Labuan Subsea. I’ve already anticipated life in the rig or platform will not be interesting at all and facing the sea for one or few weeks doesnt seem like the best thing anyone would ask for. But hey, I am in for something different and yeah, I mean different from most girls. Have my fingers crossed and hope I will go through everything smoothly. Will update on the OFS-1 when it’s done.

First Blog: Mystical Egypt

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

I
never really thought i would be writing blogs but i guess the boredom
is really killing me. As I spent most of my time in front of the
computer these days,I thought blogging would be a good way to kill some
of my time.

My first blog: Egypt trip. I personally enjoyed this trip alot, even
though it was pretty hectic and energry draining at some point. I was
in Egypt last month (22-31st Dec) and spent the Christmas there with my
family. It was a 3.35am flight from KLIA to Doha airport (no direct
flight to Egypt). Arrived Doha at 6.30am Qatar time and since the
transit time to Alexandria is 6 hours, we opt for a city tour around
Doha. half of the population of Qatar is foreigners, so our tour guide
is a sri lankan and our bus driver a pakistani. It’s funny how the tour
guide always say nasty things about Qatar and it’s even funnier that
the first thing he said to us on the bus was "Basically, there’s
nothing to know about Qatar" After paying 60USD for this 4 hours tour,
this is what we get? Nothing about the country is that fascinating
really, but the culture there is! I was told that the ppl there only
wakes up at 10am everyday, so when we were being driven around the city
at 7 in the morning, there were hardly any cars on the road. The Qatari
doesnt have to work cos the goverment pays for their living. Even for
the private sector, their working hours are 8am-12pm. How spoilt is
that! Polygamy applies here as known but the first wife gets all the
benefits, land, house, money… and Qatari man only has one
responsibility: that is to make the wife happy. I am not kidding. If u
have any Qatari friend, ask them. Well, we went to some scenic areas in
Doha and also visited the ASEAN games stadium. It’s really impressive
and well designed.

Ok, next was a 2.5 hours flight to Alexandria, the north of Egypt, a
city facing the beautiful Mediterranean sea. We were checked into
Renaissance hotel upon arrival and for dinner, we went to a Greek
restaurant, the food was great. The next day, we went to King Farouk’s
palace, MOntazah Garden and Pompy Pillar. After that, we were off to
Cairo with a 3 hours bus ride. we could see the majestic pyramids of
Giza upon entering cairo city and honestly, it’s amazing! in the middle
of the hustle and bustle of the busy city, there they are, one of the 7
wonders of the world. When my egyptian friend Chester told me that the
pyramids are right in the middle of the city, I doubted every single
word, but gosh I was surprised! It was already night when I reached
Cairo and after stopping by at a Papyrus shop to get a, obviously a
Papyrus paper as souvenir, we head straight to hotel and then out again
to a Nile River Cruise for dinner. We were entertained with tenura
dance and belly dancing. Boy the belly dancer can really shake her
belly! I could even feel the vibration from where I was sitting when
she was dancing.
Dsc00640_1

Belly dancer…err…I know she looks scary in a way and err fat in a way also…hahah

The next day was the visit to the Pyramids of Giza and also The
Sphinx. Magnificient, that’s all i could say. I heard so much about it,
read about it in Sejarah book, and even seen many tv programs on it,
and finally, I am just right in front of the pyramids. Took tons of
pics there. The Sphinx were ok but I wonder why the faces of their
humanly structures are always tampered or disfigured. Camel ride, gosh
that was one crazy ride for me. firstly, my camel was not an obedient
one, refused to walked when it’s supposed to, so when the egyptian man
tried to pull the camel, it kept on vibrating and I felt as if i was
going to fall anytime. and they are tall! so, falling off a camel
wouldnt be a pretty sight. Haha…check out my friendster pictures of
the pictures of Giza and camel ride. Here is one nice pic…me kissing
the Sphinx..haha.

Next destination was to the famous Bazaar Khan El
Khaleely where I met Chester and then took a sleeping train to Luxor. 9
hours train and the train’s condition? Ok, first of all, we were told
that we were going for a first clas sleeping train, hopes were high but
when the train arrived, everyone was puzzled. "Are u sure this is the
train?" Everyone was asking everyone the same question. well, the train
looked…worn out and the colour…not very first class. So we kinda
know that sleeping that night would not be a very good one. The cabin
is small and quite dirty. The TOILET…gosh…the TOILET is amusing. I
went in, was glad there was a mirror, sink and toilet bowl. But then
when I finally finished my ‘business’ I was looking for a flush and to
my horror there isnt any…but there was this button on the floor. So
i  stepped on it and the flapper in the toilet bowl was opened,
draining the ’stuff’ straight to the railway track. no kidding, when
the flapper is open, u could actually see the railway track! obviously
the toilet will stink cos there;s no flush, so everyone never eat and
drink that night and go straight to open…so much of a first class
train. Haha. but it was a good experience…am laughing about it now.

Visited the Karnak temple and Luxor temple and stayed at another
nice hotel, Le Meridien Luxor to compensate for the unfortunate night
on the train. After that, off we go to Aswan, the southest last big
city of Egypt before crossing the border of Sudan. We spent 3 nights on
the River Nile Cruise, bringing us back to Luxor.

Here is one of the highlight of this vacation. The trip to Abu
Simbel, the famous 4 statues of Ramses II. The night before, I went to
bed at around 11pm. and the morning call for Abu Simbel is 2.30am!
that’s got to be the earliest morning call I ever had so far! I woke
up, grab my sweater and breakfast pack and head straight to the bus.
The bus then moved to a meeting point where close to 100 tour buses and
vans were lining up. Yup, all tourists have to go together to Abu
Simble…and with the escort of police. Apparently it’s not safe to
drive to touristic spots and there were terrorist attacks before. So
the police convoy leaves at 3.30am and it took ard 3 hours to finally
reached that place. Gosh it was freezing cold but again, everything was
worth it cos the statues are majestic and simply beautiful. Ramses II
also built a smaller temple for his wife, Queen Nefertari (not
Nefertiti) next to his temple.

P1020919_1

Basically, I’ve visited many many temples (Edfu temple,
Kom Ombo temple, etc) and went to many markets and bazaars to look for
nice souvenirs. The last day was in Luxor where we visit the Valley of
the Kings. Most of the ancient Pharoahs were buried in this Valley,
like Tutankhaman, Ramses I-VI and many more I could hardly pronouce
their name.

Oh did i mention that I learnt belly dancing during the 3 nights
river nile cruise…One swiss lady was kind enough to give the girls on
the cruise some belly lesson. gosh it’s really tough. And this dance is
definitely not for the skinny girls out there cos u obviously need a
belly to dance. Haha… Had tons of fun learning it but i think my
thighs hurt pretty bad after the dancing lesson.

I reached KLIA on 12.30pm, 31st of Dec. Exhausted, jet lagged and
tired….but my dad insist of a good malaysian food before heading
home, so we went to Jalan Ipoh Yong Tau Foo for lunch. After that was
dreamland for many hours….. It was indeed a great trip. Met many
wonderful people and I am glad that we did exhange msn contact.
Egypt…a truly captivating country.
