I
never really thought i would be writing blogs but i guess the boredom
is really killing me. As I spent most of my time in front of the
computer these days,I thought blogging would be a good way to kill some
of my time.
My first blog: Egypt trip. I personally enjoyed this trip alot, even
though it was pretty hectic and energry draining at some point. I was
in Egypt last month (22-31st Dec) and spent the Christmas there with my
family. It was a 3.35am flight from KLIA to Doha airport (no direct
flight to Egypt). Arrived Doha at 6.30am Qatar time and since the
transit time to Alexandria is 6 hours, we opt for a city tour around
Doha. half of the population of Qatar is foreigners, so our tour guide
is a sri lankan and our bus driver a pakistani. It’s funny how the tour
guide always say nasty things about Qatar and it’s even funnier that
the first thing he said to us on the bus was "Basically, there’s
nothing to know about Qatar" After paying 60USD for this 4 hours tour,
this is what we get? Nothing about the country is that fascinating
really, but the culture there is! I was told that the ppl there only
wakes up at 10am everyday, so when we were being driven around the city
at 7 in the morning, there were hardly any cars on the road. The Qatari
doesnt have to work cos the goverment pays for their living. Even for
the private sector, their working hours are 8am-12pm. How spoilt is
that! Polygamy applies here as known but the first wife gets all the
benefits, land, house, money… and Qatari man only has one
responsibility: that is to make the wife happy. I am not kidding. If u
have any Qatari friend, ask them. Well, we went to some scenic areas in
Doha and also visited the ASEAN games stadium. It’s really impressive
and well designed.

Ok, next was a 2.5 hours flight to Alexandria, the north of Egypt, a
city facing the beautiful Mediterranean sea. We were checked into
Renaissance hotel upon arrival and for dinner, we went to a Greek
restaurant, the food was great. The next day, we went to King Farouk’s
palace, MOntazah Garden and Pompy Pillar. After that, we were off to
Cairo with a 3 hours bus ride. we could see the majestic pyramids of
Giza upon entering cairo city and honestly, it’s amazing! in the middle
of the hustle and bustle of the busy city, there they are, one of the 7
wonders of the world. When my egyptian friend Chester told me that the
pyramids are right in the middle of the city, I doubted every single
word, but gosh I was surprised! It was already night when I reached
Cairo and after stopping by at a Papyrus shop to get a, obviously a
Papyrus paper as souvenir, we head straight to hotel and then out again
to a Nile River Cruise for dinner. We were entertained with tenura
dance and belly dancing. Boy the belly dancer can really shake her
belly! I could even feel the vibration from where I was sitting when
she was dancing.

Belly dancer…err…I know she looks scary in a way and err fat in a way also…hahah
The next day was the visit to the Pyramids of Giza and also The
Sphinx. Magnificient, that’s all i could say. I heard so much about it,
read about it in Sejarah book, and even seen many tv programs on it,
and finally, I am just right in front of the pyramids. Took tons of
pics there. The Sphinx were ok but I wonder why the faces of their
humanly structures are always tampered or disfigured. Camel ride, gosh
that was one crazy ride for me. firstly, my camel was not an obedient
one, refused to walked when it’s supposed to, so when the egyptian man
tried to pull the camel, it kept on vibrating and I felt as if i was
going to fall anytime. and they are tall! so, falling off a camel
wouldnt be a pretty sight. Haha…check out my friendster pictures of
the pictures of Giza and camel ride. Here is one nice pic…me kissing
the Sphinx..haha.

Next destination was to the famous Bazaar Khan El
Khaleely where I met Chester and then took a sleeping train to Luxor. 9
hours train and the train’s condition? Ok, first of all, we were told
that we were going for a first clas sleeping train, hopes were high but
when the train arrived, everyone was puzzled. "Are u sure this is the
train?" Everyone was asking everyone the same question. well, the train
looked…worn out and the colour…not very first class. So we kinda
know that sleeping that night would not be a very good one. The cabin
is small and quite dirty. The TOILET…gosh…the TOILET is amusing. I
went in, was glad there was a mirror, sink and toilet bowl. But then
when I finally finished my ‘business’ I was looking for a flush and to
my horror there isnt any…but there was this button on the floor. So
i stepped on it and the flapper in the toilet bowl was opened,
draining the ’stuff’ straight to the railway track. no kidding, when
the flapper is open, u could actually see the railway track! obviously
the toilet will stink cos there;s no flush, so everyone never eat and
drink that night and go straight to open…so much of a first class
train. Haha. but it was a good experience…am laughing about it now.
Visited the Karnak temple and Luxor temple and stayed at another
nice hotel, Le Meridien Luxor to compensate for the unfortunate night
on the train. After that, off we go to Aswan, the southest last big
city of Egypt before crossing the border of Sudan. We spent 3 nights on
the River Nile Cruise, bringing us back to Luxor.
Here is one of the highlight of this vacation. The trip to Abu
Simbel, the famous 4 statues of Ramses II. The night before, I went to
bed at around 11pm. and the morning call for Abu Simbel is 2.30am!
that’s got to be the earliest morning call I ever had so far! I woke
up, grab my sweater and breakfast pack and head straight to the bus.
The bus then moved to a meeting point where close to 100 tour buses and
vans were lining up. Yup, all tourists have to go together to Abu
Simble…and with the escort of police. Apparently it’s not safe to
drive to touristic spots and there were terrorist attacks before. So
the police convoy leaves at 3.30am and it took ard 3 hours to finally
reached that place. Gosh it was freezing cold but again, everything was
worth it cos the statues are majestic and simply beautiful. Ramses II
also built a smaller temple for his wife, Queen Nefertari (not
Nefertiti) next to his temple.

Basically, I’ve visited many many temples (Edfu temple,
Kom Ombo temple, etc) and went to many markets and bazaars to look for
nice souvenirs. The last day was in Luxor where we visit the Valley of
the Kings. Most of the ancient Pharoahs were buried in this Valley,
like Tutankhaman, Ramses I-VI and many more I could hardly pronouce
their name.
Oh did i mention that I learnt belly dancing during the 3 nights
river nile cruise…One swiss lady was kind enough to give the girls on
the cruise some belly lesson. gosh it’s really tough. And this dance is
definitely not for the skinny girls out there cos u obviously need a
belly to dance. Haha… Had tons of fun learning it but i think my
thighs hurt pretty bad after the dancing lesson.
I reached KLIA on 12.30pm, 31st of Dec. Exhausted, jet lagged and
tired….but my dad insist of a good malaysian food before heading
home, so we went to Jalan Ipoh Yong Tau Foo for lunch. After that was
dreamland for many hours….. It was indeed a great trip. Met many
wonderful people and I am glad that we did exhange msn contact.
Egypt…a truly captivating country.
